Frigiliana
Situated just 6 kms north of Nerja is the historic village of Frigiliana.

Frigiliana was the site of numerous battles culminating in the famous battle of the Rock of Frigiliana in 1569, which ended in the complete expulsion of the Moorish people.  One can learn the history of this struggle by walking through the streets of the historic section where there are series of twelve ceramic plaques posted about which explains the entire story.

It is especially curious that much of the historic section was built from the rocks of the pillaged Arab castle.  The white-washed houses and the many popular architectural features like the parapets, courtyards, and waterworks and the like are very much in the Moorish tradition. This tradition, along with the general cleanliness of the town has led to the sweet nick-name given the inhabitants “Aguanosos” or people of the water.  We also offer a variety of hotels and self catering accommodation in Frigiliana on the Costa del Sol for rental purposes.  Please return to our home page for further information.

The Caves of Nerja
Discovered in 1959, the Nerja caves are now one of the biggest tourist attractions in Spain, visited by hundreds of thousands each year.  One of the most beautiful cave complexes in Europe, look especially for the 32m high column in Cataclysm Hall which was formed by an estimated 1,000 billion drops of water.

The caves lie on the outskirts of Nerja near the village of Maro and are served by a regular bus service or not too far to walk if you’re fit and energetic.  If you’re here in July, try to get tickets for the annual festival when famous national and international artists perform in this beautiful underground setting.  Opening hours are 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 6.30pm (8pm in July and August).

Unfortunately they haven't built a hotel in the caves yet, but I can assure you when they do we shall be one of the first to offer rental accommodation!

Alhambra Palace
When visiting Nerja it is worth taking a day out to go to the magnificent Alhambra Palace, Granada – It is also advised to buy your tickets before you leave Nerja, as they are restricted on visitors per day especially in the summer period.

The Alhambra Palace overlooking the city of Granada stands out as the most famous example of Moorish architecture, and perhaps it is the most known Muslim construction all in all. This palace structure was started after the Reconquista, the reconquering of Spain performed by the Christian kings. This adds to its aura. While the illiterate Christians were advancing, Spain reached its highest cultural level ever, but under the Muslim rulers. The slender structure of Alhambra, the breathtaking details, the celebration of life, the mixture of nature in men's design, all underline what tragedy the return of Christianity in Spain was to be for centuries to come.
Alhambra was started as late as 13th century, but Alhambra consists of palaces built by several rulers, each had his own. The carrying idea behind several of the buildings of Alhambra is nothing less than an attempt to create a duplicate of Paradise on earth. The romantic design is made up of a mixture of slender column arcades, fountains,
and light-reflecting water basins. Most prominent is the Lion Court.
Granada was lost to the Christians in 1492, and when the Reyos Católicos, king Ferdinand and queen Isabella died some years later, Granada was chosen for their
burial. Perhaps the Muslim dreams of Paradise moved even the cold hearts of the two?

Fuengirola Zoo

Just along the Costa del Sol you will find Fuengirola Zoo which is designed to replicate the natural habitat of each and every one of the animal species living there.  Large areas have been created in which water and vegetation take front stage.  Rivers, gigantic trees, impressive waterfalls, bamboo-shrouded temples, hanging bridges and abandoned mines taken over by birds and bats.  These are just some of the magical places that will surprise you as you make your way through the grounds of the Fuengirola Zoo.  The Zoo is in the center of the town of Fuengirola only a few minutes walk from the bus terminal and train Station.  Opens everyday from 10am.

Tivoli World
Spain’s answer to Disneyland – Tivoli World is a large amusement park for all the family.  Spectacular Wild West shows in an authentic reproduction of a Western Town.  An open-air theatre presents a wide choice of live music, international folklore events, ballet, children’s specials and comedy.  Open hours vary Tel 952 57 7016.
