Information about Nerja

A place still exists on the Costa del Sol, which lies between small coves untouched by development and surrounded by impressive mountain scenery. Only 40 minutes from Malaga and 1˝ hours drive to Granada you will find reasonable self catering accommodation and hotels to fit every budget.  Please further view our web site for information regarding rental accommodation in hotels, or self catering properties on the Costa del Sol.

Much of Nerja’s charm comes from its narrow winding streets and white washed buildings.  You can enjoy yourself  the full all year round with its warm climate and take advantage of the relaxed way of life of a village that still retains much of the character of its Moorish past.  Today, Nerja offers an excellent range of quality accommodation and leisure time facilities.

Balcon de Europa
The historic centre, of which the Balcon de Europa (Balcony of Europe) is part, was constructed around 1487.  Formerly a IX Century Castle, it is now a viewing point above the sea.  At Calahonda gap, the Paseo de Carabineros begins a scenic path winding its way through rocks bordering the seashore down to the Burriana Beach.  To the side of the Balcon, you will find the XVII Century El Salvador Church, constructed in Baroque-mudejar style.  You may also visit the XVI Century “Nuestra Seńora de las Angustias” Hermitage with its paintings by the master Alonso Cano.

Beaches
There are 9 kms of beaches, including the internationally famous Burriana Beach that has once again been awarded  the Blue Flag of the European Union for its clean beach.

Nerja used to be described as the Costa del Sol’s best-kept secret but there’s an alley off the Balcon between the hotel and the church, which leads to Nerja’s best-kept secret, Playa El Salon that many regular visitors to the town never find.  Further west are Playa La Torrecilla and Playa El Playazo, both of which can be reached down Avda Castilla Pérez, one of Nerja’s busiest Streets.

Night Life
The biggest concentration of nightlife in Nerja is on Antonio Millón and the adjacent Plaza Tutti Frutti, which are wall to wall with bars, many of them with dancing.  The area doesn’t come to life much before midnight and bars stay open until 3.30am Sunday to Thursday and 4.30am on Friday and Saturday (one hour less in winter).

There are other bars, which stay open later, but then it’s mainly on to the discos, Jimmy’s on Antonio Millón, Castillo on Diputación and Narixa down an alley to the seaward side of the church on the Balcon.
